On September 18, 2020, a jury consisting of architects, urban planners, investors and Bremerhaven's political and administrative authorities decided in favor of Danish architecture firm COBE (with SHP Ingenieure, Transsolar KlimaEngineering). They are to continue planning the Bremerhaven shipyard quarter.
The basic goal is a carbon-neutral and thus climate- and resource-neutral district with three important qualities: proximity to water, greenery and the city.
The unique identity of the shipyard quarter will be transformed in phases from industrial wasteland to a quarter with a rich history.
Seven car-free neighborhoods with around 500,000 m² of development offer outdoor and indoor spaces with a high quality of life, supported by the design of the urban microclimate as part of the urban planning process. The concept for an efficient energy supply from renewable sources is the basis for the objective of a climate-neutral transformation of the shipyard quarter.
