We are honored to share that our Downsview Framework Plan has received a National Urban Design Award in the Urban Design Plans category. The National Urban Design Awards are bestowed by the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada, The Canadian Institute of Planners, and The Canadian Society of Landscape Architects.
“[The framework plan] is a demonstration of how a once-negative industrial site can be transformed into a valuable resource for future generations and should be used as an example for other municipalities,” the jury said.
The design team worked with an excellent team of consultant, local and Indigenous communities, and city-wide stakeholders in Toronto and engaged with more than 3,000 people to develop a collective and informed vision that draws on and supports the diversity of Downsview and the city of Toronto.
The result is a framework that envisions a series of connected, vibrant, and healthy communities supported by sustainable urban systems — a place where people can truly live, work, and play.
Transsolar was part of the team supporting this process, advising on microclimates, outdoor comfort, and energy strategies.
