Concept: Médecins sans Frontières – Colors of Humanity, Genève, Suisse
The significant façade gave a visible motto: Colors of Humanity. Transsolar proposed to use the architects unique colorful façade design as an energy efficient strategy to achieve two objectives. Firstly, to provide shade internally and secondly, to generate electricity. Photovoltaic glass modules manufactured with perforation and in many vibrant colors could have been used for panels to make up the façade. With additional modules on the roof collectively 72% of the buildings electrical power could be generated.
Although Steven Holl Architects in collaboration with Rüssli Architekten were the winners of an international competition for the design of the new Operational Center for Doctors Without Borders (Médecins Sans Frontières) their concept will not be realized. Now the design of the second winner is in planning.
