Tailor-made – from sketch to low-tech solution
I've found that initiating a project with a hand-drawn sketch has consistently proven to be an invaluable starting point for me. A sketch captures the essential constraints, serves as a visual aid and facilitates our iterative refinement. This not only supports my own understanding, but also fosters productive discussion among the entire design team, especially when faced with initial complexity.
The sketch vividly depicts the physical context and facilitates the derivation of logically coherent passive measures. These measures form the basis for achieving the desired comfort levels in an environmentally conscious, energy-efficient and cost-effective manner. In this context, "low-tech" solutions emerge as a hallmark of robust design, seamlessly integrated into the architectural design. Examples are ventilation columns in a cafeteria, or a contemporary rendition of "Berliner Lüftung" for a school.
I am always thrilled when an elegant, tailor-made and sustainable solution develops from a simple sketch.
