This Winter Semester 2025/26, Ben Gottkehaskamp is teaching as a guest lecturer at the Technical University of Munich (TUM). Together with Christian Hepf from the Chair of Building Technology and Climate Responsive Design, he developed and is co-teaching the new course “Advanced Modeling”, offered to students of the Resource Efficient and Sustainable Building (RNB) M.Sc. program.
The course introduces students to TRNSYS and TRNLizard, powerful tools for simulating transient thermal systems within Rhino 8 and Grasshopper. Participants learn to model and analyze dynamic thermal behavior and explore energy performance through hands-on exercises. For their semester project, students will take on the perspective of a climate engineer to simulate their own apartment room(s), identify performance issues, establish a baseline model, and optimize it accordingly.
With a mix of in-person sessions and online learning, the course encourages students to combine technical precision with critical reflection on energy and comfort in architecture.
