On August 17, 2026, Nadir Abdessemed took part in a studio interview on WDR’s Lokalzeit Südwestfalen.
Prior to the interview, the program featured a segment titled “Climate Protection in the Workplace at Hundhausen”. The report presented a building in Siegen that maintains comfortable indoor temperatures even during hot summer days through its architectural design. Key factors include the building’s thermal mass as well as the design of its façades and windows.
In the subsequent studio interview, Nadir, a visiting professor at the University of Siegen and an engineer at Transsolar, explained the principles behind these strategies. The discussion focused on how such approaches can be applied to residential buildings, schools, and other building types. He emphasized that thermal mass is only one component of a holistic design concept. It is the interaction of multiple factors, including effective solar shading, sufficient daylight, air movement, and climate-responsive design, that enables buildings to remain comfortable despite rising summer temperatures.
