Thomas is one of the founders of Transsolar in 1992 and introduced new simulation methods in the company.

As expert in daylight analysis and optimization as well as Computational Fluid Dynamics, he established simulation methods in these fields to validate innovative climate concepts. Thomas also developed the application of perceived thermal comfort and adaptive thermal comfort modelling. From 1997 to 2024 he was Professor for Building Physics and Climate Adapted Building Design at the University of Applied Sciences Kaiserslautern. His consultancy work and research ranges from renovation and monitoring to resilient and climate conscious urban planning.
