Matthias Rammig | Plants as Partners in Climate Protection | Urban Utopia

Under the theme “Connection,” the URBAN UTOPIA Conference 2026 will focus on the diverse relationships surrounding plants. Matthias Rammig will participate in the event as a speaker, addressing the topic “Protect + Adapt – Plants as Partners for Climate Protection and Climate Adaptation.”

In his presentation, Matthias will use selected projects to demonstrate how Transsolar views plants as an integral part of climate strategies for buildings and urban spaces. The starting point is the question of how issues of climate engineering can be linked with those of climate adaptation—and how this leads to the development of sustainable spaces that integrate architecture and nature.

A central theme of his presentation is the close connection between humans and plants. In times of rising temperatures, greenery can improve thermal comfort and well-being. It can also enhance psychological well-being through the movement of leaves, play of light, and effects of shadows, which create a spatial quality that can be experienced directly.

Drawing on his perspective, Matthias makes it clear in his presentation that climate-adapted design goes beyond purely technical solutions and requires an integrative understanding of the environment, use, and perception.
The session will take place on Friday, July 10, from 1:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Urban Development and Politics track. More info and tickets >
