The Shift Landmark | Matthias Schuler Part of the International Jury

Matthias Schuler is part of the international jury for a major new waterfront development in southern Rotterdam. Together with fellow jurors, he selected five finalist teams from more than 80 submissions for the Shift International Architecture Competition. The winning design will be announced in spring 2026.

The shortlisted concepts were developed by teams led by MVRDV (Netherlands), Heatherwick Studio (United Kingdom), Office for Political Innovation (Spain), Mecanoo (Netherlands), and Ecosistema Urbano (Spain), each presenting distinct visions for sustainability and climate action.

Launched in January 2025, the competition calls for the design of “the Shift Landmark,” a 25,000–30,000 m² mixed-use building in the new Waterkant district in Rotterdam. The project will include a hotel, conference and meeting spaces, and a sustainable food court, aiming to create a destination where circular living can be experienced and put into practice.
