Competition winner: Center for Physics and Mathematics (CSPM), Geneva

Burckhardt Architektur SA won the competition for the Center for Physics and Mathematics (CSPM) at the University of Geneva.
The official announcement of the results of the two-stage, open architectural competition, conducted in accordance with SIA 142, took place at a press conference at the University of Geneva/ Uni Mail. The jury praised the high quality of the design, which precisely addresses the urban planning challenges of successful integration with high-quality outdoor facilities, offers an intelligent architectural response to the special features of the teaching and research program and reconciles this with the technical requirements of a top-class science center.
The design, "Le Théorème de Marguerite," addresses the desire to keep the university faculties in the city center despite the limited availability of space, in order to strengthen the connection between education and society, as well as between science and the city.
A permeable plinth delicately interweaves the new center with its surroundings. It also serves as common ground for the various user groups. The high-rise building, with its photovoltaic elements, is dedicated to research, while the flatter structure serves students and teaching.
Participating in the competition gave us the opportunity to support the development of the architectural concept for the university as part of a strong, interdisciplinary team. We are looking forward to the next steps!
We would also like to thank GE-Territoire, the University of Geneva, and the jury for their trust and the entire team for their inspiring collaboration.
